Robert Jan JEEKEL is the Head of European Institutional Affairs & EU Energy & Climate policy for ArcelorMittal since 2012. For this he is dealing with the major technical, political, legal and strategy aspects of ETS in the company and the steel sector. At the official European Commission stakeholder meeting of ETS in 2015 he presented the steel sector input, as in several other EC and external other expert meetings. He has also been involved in the legislation for CCUS to enable the transformation of CO2 process gasses into ethanol. Prior to this he was Director Energy & Climate Change for Eurometaux, the federation for the non-ferrous metals industry. Here he was leading the sector on ETS. Main elements: - dealing with the setting on ETS (fallback) benchmarks for copper, zinc and aluminium; - the inclusion in the ETS Directive of the option for compensation of CO2 costs in electricity prices, and the linked implementation rules; - the exercise in the Commission to improve ETS related modelling for an improved basis for decision making; Before that he held European public affairs functions for Dutch and US industries. Robert has a degree on Management of International Organisations and Relations from the University of Groningen (NL) and on Business Economics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussels (B). He is Dutch and lives in Brussels.
