Szrajber in appropriate manner understood and realized the profession of health care manager • Awarded by the Minister of Health "for his contribution to the protection of health" in December 2013. • Winner of the nationwide competition of "Służba Zdrowia" magazine Award of Alina Pieńkowska 2006 - granted to people especially meritorious to health care in Poland. • Awarded the Gold Medal of Merit for Local Government of Medicine in 2006 - in recognition of the medical community, awarded by the Łódź Medical Chamber Director Szrajber manages one the largest in Poland and the largest in the voivodship of Łódź facility which has 4 locations in Łódź, in which are located a total of 35 wards equipped with more than 870 beds. Within a year more than 60 000 patients are hospitalized there, while nearly 500 000 patients are covered by outpatient care. Yearly contract with the National Health Fund amounts to 400 million PLN. The main objective of the Hospital is to take action to protect health and improve the health status of the population by organizing and conducting curative, preventive and rehabilitation services, continuously improve the level of service and to promote healthy behaviour. The hospital provides health services in the field of emergency medicine, internal medicine, interventional cardiology, general and vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, neurology, urology, ENT, allergy, obstetrics and gynaecology, nephrology, rheumatology, rehabilitation, palliative care, and as the only specialized centre in Łódź Voivodship in oncology. Within the framework of operating in the structures of the Hospital the Regional Oncology Centre highly specialized procedures of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, haematology including bone marrow transplants are carried out. Hospital has a leading position in the region in the field of oncology. An integral part of the facility, extremely important to Łódź voivodship, is the Regional Oncology Centre with modern Teleradiotherapy Department. The facility has a radiotherapeutic apparatus that meets the highest requirements of the world standards and is one of the most modern units of this type in Poland. It has III the highest level of referral awarded by the Polish Society for Radiation Oncology. Development of the Hospital inextricably increases the scope and quality of healthcare services and their availability to patients from all over Łódź Voivodship. Adopted by the Director Management strategy addressed measurable results: After a year of taking the office of Director by W. Szrajber in 2008, the Hospital regained financial balance. In the next five years he has led to the transformation of the Regional Oncology Centre in Łódź from decaying, neglected facility into one of the most advanced cancer centres in Poland. In October of 2008 Director Wojciech Szrajber was the initiator and co-organizer of action „TOGETHER FOR ŁÓDŹ ONCOLOGY”. The purpose of initiated and successfully organized social action was a struggle for the improvement of conditions for the treatment of oncological patients in the only one in Łódź Voivodship of Regional Oncology Centre, being an integral part of the Hospital. The main goal of the Director has become development of Łódź oncology. The appeal was signed by all MPs of Łódź. The success of conducted campaign was the introduction of the Regional Oncology Centre on the list of strategic investments in Łódź Voivodship, which resulted in obtaining for the Hospital financing from EU funds for modernization of Regional Oncology Centre in the amount of 58 800 000.00 PLN. Thanks to efficient and effective management of the institution, as a representative of senior management director Szrajber received the European award EuroCertificate 2010 in the category "Certificate for Management", representing a recognition of the jury for the special achievements of the persons responsible for decision-making, honouring implemented quality systems and the ability to use proven designs of management, contributing to its dynamic development. This recognition is reflected in the granting Wojewódzki Szpital Specjalistyczny European award: EuroCertificate 2010 in the category "Certificate of Good Practices of Services". It is awarded to medical institutions that mark out from the competition with efficient organization and management, excellent development policies and fulfilling the stringent quality standards. This award is an acknowledgment of the achievements and contributions put into the development of a high standard of service and professionalism of the services provided. Thanks to the effective implementation of the concept of establishment the most modern oncology facility in Poland by investing in new technologies, use of innovative solutions in the management and observance of ethical principles in business activity the Hospital under the leadership of Director Wojciech Szrajber won in 2011 prestigious title in the competition, which is organized by the Institute of Modern Technologies , Office of the City of Łódź and Łódź Regional Science and Technology Park "Leader of New Technologies 2011" in the category: large enterprise. Another prestigious award of the Hospital, and thus a confirmation of the effectiveness of management of the facility is the title of silver Leader in the "Leader of Health Care 2012" competition, in the category "Innovative Ideas in Health Care”. Winners of the competition were chosen by Competition Jury composed of personalities from the world of medicine, representing the managers, people from the fields of science, organization of health care market, parliament, organizations for patients; pedagogical centres. The main criterion for selection of the winner was the creative idea, which sets a new level of quality and standards in health care. A very important achievement, which have particular significance for building Hospital brand as a modern facility, at the highest level was effective acquisition and use of funds for the development of the Hospital, much of which came from European funds. Hospital, due to the efforts of the Directorate and employees and the goodwill and involvement of the Provincial Government of Łódź, has become the biggest beneficiary of EU financial support among the hospitals in the country. In years 2008-2015 it acquired for investment of over 200 million PLN from the European funds. As part of the funds obtained from the European Funds the following projects were completed: • Modernization of the Regional Oncology Centre (ROO) • Creation of PET Laboratory for the needs of the Regional Oncology Centre • Establishment of the e-radiology system • Revitalization of historic complex of the former paediatric hospital of Anny Marii at ul. Piłsudskiego 71 in Łódź • Reconstruction of the local power grid and ensuring efficient alternative source of energy in the event of failure at Dr. J. Kopernika in Łódź - Phase I and II From its own funds and other sources of financing the following projects were completed: • Commissioning the complex for the needs of emergency medicine - Hospital Emergency Ward May 2009. • Construction of a modern Centre of Bone Marrow Transplantation, the only in Łódź Voivodship - commissioning January 2010. • Purchase of modern equipment for the Department of Teleradiotherapy, including the purchase of modern 32-layer CT scanner, multi-energy linear accelerator, therapeutic simulator with option of 2D and 3D, purchase of system dosimetric quality control and others. • Modernization of Regional Rehabilitation Clinic - commissioning March 2010. Facility modernization process is inseparable also with organizational changes and pro-quality actions, which include: • establishment of Multidisciplinary Team for Treatment Planning • participation in programs to exchange experiences with health providers across Europe, Leonardo, Hope Exchange medical Staff trips • changes in the way of management and functioning of individual organizational units and adapting to the highest standards in force in Europe - the certification of management systems and accreditation, • organizational changes in the structure of the hospital: the creation of treatment and non-treatment divisions, Hospital undertook a close cooperation with art academies - the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz and Łódź Film School in which university students participate in the arrangement and interior design of newly refurbished wards and clinics and creating multimedia images for the Hospital and its patients. Hospital in 2016 ranked in the top 10 Hospitals with the largest budget in Poland and is one of the few that were able to demonstrate the lack of liabilities due at the end of March 2016. Director Szrajber in the long-term strategy of the Hospital for the years 2015-2020 has set targets aimed at continuous improvement of the quality of healthcare services, improvement and further training of qualification of personnel, introduction of innovative treatments thanks to its highly specialized unit in the apparatus and medical equipment, developing activities related to prevention and health promotion as well as the further modernization and development of infrastructure. The adopted assumptions can be pursued on the basis of currently available resources as well as through funds obtained from external sources, inter alia, from the European Funds.
