Alicja Krzemień

President, European Association of Coal and Lignite - EURACOAL, Head, Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Safety in Industry, Department of Exploitation Technology, Rockbursts and Risk Assessment, Central Mining Institute - National Research Institute

Is a Mining Engineer and Professor at the Central Mining Institute (GIG-PIB) in Katowice, Poland, where she leads the Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Industrial Safety within the Department of Exploitation Technology, Rockbursts, and Risk Assessment. She serves on the Scientific Councils of both GIG-PIB and the Institute of Rock Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Alicja Krzemień is actively engaged at the European level as a member of the European Commission’s Coal Advisory Group, President of EURACOAL, and Chairwoman of its Technical Research Committee. She also heads the UNECE Task Force for Safe Operations and Closure of Coal Mines. Specialist in the safe closure of hard coal mines and the associated environmental risks, the development of infrastructure for decommissioned mines and post-mining areas for the use of green energy, the restoration of degraded and transformed ecosystems in mining areas, the safety of green hydrogen production from mine water, and the development of risk assessment methods for the mining sector. She has led and carried out over a dozen international research projects on the transition of the coal mining sector.
