Erik Gandini

Erik Gandini is an Italian–Swedish film director, producer, and Professor of Documentary Film at the Stockholm University of the Arts. He is known for critically acclaimed documentaries exploring power, ideology, and modern life. His breakthrough Surplus – Terrorized into Being Consumers won the main prize at IDFA, while Videocracy (Venice, TIFF) examined the transformation of values in Berlusconi’s Italy. The Swedish Theory of Love sparked international debate on individualism and loneliness.
His latest film, After Work (2023), developed within the research project The Future Through the Present, explores a world where work is no longer central to life. Widely distributed internationally, it has been praised as a bold reflection on the future of work and human purpose.
