Is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. She also completed postgraduate studies Executive Master of Business Administration at the same university. In 2019, she participated in a programme carried out by the National School of Public Administration (KSAP) and the Spanish IESE Business School, dedicated to strengthening management skills of public administration officials. Małgorzata Szczepańska has worked in public administration for over 25 years. Since 2005, she has been a civil servant. Before taking the office of Director General of NIK Małgorzata Szczepańska ran the President’s Bureau at the Polish Agency for Audit Oversight (PANA). In 2017–2024, she was the Director of the Department of Innovation and Development Support Programmes at the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy. Previously, she worked at the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Economy, the Energy Regulatory Office and the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Construction/ the Office of Housing and Urban Development.
