Mining Engineer, Professor at the University Oviedo in Spain and consultant in mining and business administration since 1994. Member of the National Commission on Mining Safety in Spain, Member of the Coal Advisory Group (CAG) of the European Commission, Member of the Board of the Official Professional Association of Spanish Mining Engineers (Northwest Chapter), Member of the International Organising Committee of the World Mining Congress.
Coordinator of the EU-funded GreenJOBS project focused on repurposing end-of-life underground coal mines by deploying emerging renewable energy and circular economy technologies to promote sustainable local economic growth and maximise the number of green, quality jobs.
Currently, he is developing other EU projects related to post-mining, related to building a Green Hydrogen plant in Asturias (MINE-TO-H2 project), developing a Common European Data Space on critical raw materials' potential in closed extractive coal waste facilities (CRMsDataSpace), and constructing large-scale energy storage in coal mines using dense fluids from inert mine waste (DenStorMine).
