Szymon Łukasik

Position: Director of AI Safety Research Center (Poland)

Director of the Polish AI Safety Research Center within the NASK and a professor at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. At NASK, prof. Łukasik leads a team of researchers and engineers working on various aspects of responsible AI and the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science, and complex computational systems.

Prof. Łukasik is a graduate of the prestigious Top 500 Innovators Program at UC Berkeley and has served as a visiting scientist at several renowned international research institutions, including the University of Technology Sydney (Australia), UNINOVA (Portugal), the National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition (China), and IRIDIA at Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium).

His research focuses on the adaptation and self-learning mechanisms of deep neural network architectures, as well as advanced video and text analysis. A central theme of his work is nature-inspired computation, particularly metaheuristic algorithms and their practical applications to challenging optimization and data analysis problems.

Prof. Łukasik is also interested in the analysis of complex multimodal datasets, integrating information from text, images, audio, and numerical data to enable richer and more robust artificial intelligence systems.

He is the author of more than 80 scientific publications in data science and artificial intelligence, contributing to the development of advanced computational methods and their real-world applications.
