He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Cracow University of Technology.

He began his professional career as a foreman at a construction site. He has been associated with Kielce Chemadin company, where he went through all levels of career.

In the years 1999 - 2001 he was the voivode of Świętokrzyskie.

He has been holding the position of the City of Kielce Mayor uninterruptedly since 2002.

He is a laureate of numerous awards and honours. He holds the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, awarded by President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda; the Order of Prince Jaroslaw the Wise - Ukraine's highest national decoration; Medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for his personal contribution to cooperation between Poland and Ukraine; The Grzegorz Palka Prize - "Local Government Oscar" - for the creation of favourable conditions for new investors and culture creators; Gold Cross of Merit for exceptional achievements in activities for local community; the title of "Regional Leader" in the "Culture" category, awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczynski. He also received the International Award "Giuseppe Sciacca" for engaging in activities to help people with disabilities and the Świętokrzyskie Voivodship Economic Award "Wings" - a special prize for city’s dynamic development.
