Dr., Prof. Evgeny Gontmakher graduated from Moscow State University in 1975.
He worked as researcher in Central Economic Institute under Russian Gosplan (Ministry of Economy). In 1992-2003 held positions as Head of Department, Russian Ministry of Labour; Deputy Minister of Social Protection; Deputy Chair of Presidential Council for Social Policy; Head of Department, Russian Governmental Staff.
2009 – 2016 - Deputy Director, chief researcher Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Science
From 2008 – Member of Executive Board, Institute of Contemporary Development
