Janusz Jureczka, Ph.D., a graduate of Faculty of Earth Sciences of Silesian University in Katowice is a geologist employed since 1983 in the Upper Silesian Branch of Polish Geological Institute in Sosnowiec, currently as its director. He specializes in geology of coal and coalbed methane deposits. In recent years he focused on the issue of pre-mine recovery of coalbed methane employing new methods never before used in Polish mines. He is a member of the Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane and a member of the Board of International Centre of Excellence on Coal Methane in Poland, acting under UNECE. He is an author or co-author of more than 120 scientific papers.
