Position: Chief Strategy & Compliance Officer

James Young is Chief Strategy and Compliance Officer of JDR Cable Systems Ltd, a leading provider of subsea umbilical and power cable products and services for the offshore energy sector.  JDR operates from their UK manufacturing facilities in Hartlepool and Littleport and from their service bases located in Newcastle, UK and Tomball, Texas US.

James has over 25 years of experience in the design, manufacture and installation of cables and umbilicals for subsea applications.   He joined JDR in 2000 as senior design engineer for new product development and was appointed Chief Technology Officer in 2016 after a series of technical and management roles within the business.  In 2021 he took on the role of Chief Strategy and Compliance Officer, to focus on defining and implementing the long-term strategies for the business.  James is leading JDR’s £130M High Voltage Cable Manufacturing business expansion project at Cambois, near Blyth, Northumberland.  Once operational the facility will create 171 new roles at the new site and safeguard a further 270 roles at JDR’s UK facilities.

James joined JDR’s Board of Directors following the acquisition of JDR by the TFKable Group in 2017, and is a member of the JDR Executive Management Team. He has a degree in mechanical engineering, is a Chartered Engineer and has an MBA from Cranfield.  James also represents JDR on the Offshore Wind Industry Council, a senior Government and industry forum, established in May 2013 to drive the development of the world-leading offshore wind sector in the UK.
