Minister of Justice of Lithuania

Ewelina Dobrowolska is a Lithuanian politician, lawyer, and human rights activist. In 2020 she became the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania after previously being elected as a member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

As a practicing lawyer, E. Dobrowolska was actively involved in social activities in the areas of anti-discrimination and human rights protection. She represented plaintiffs in court proceedings regarding the initial spelling of their given names. Through her efforts over 100 cases were won regarding the original spelling of personal names in civil status records and personal identity documents, as well as cases regarding discrimination, hate speech and other. Moreover, E. Dobrowolska headed the working group of the Department of National Minorities (under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania) which was dedicated to preparation of draft legislation on national minorities. The working group released a report titled "Legal Regulation of National Minorities in Lithuania".

In 2019 E. Dobrowolska was elected to the council of Vilnius City Municipality, where she headed the Petitions Commission and the Vilnius Roma Integration Working Group. On her initiative, municipality services were introduced in a variety of new languages. Additionally, the 2020-2023 program for the integration of the Roma into society in Vilnius was prepared and approved.

In the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, E. Dobrowolska works as a member of the Audit Committee, the Petitions Commission and the Seimas delegation to the Assembly of Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Seimas and Senate of the Republic of Poland, where she is the deputy chairperson.
