Hoonmin Lim

Ambassador of the Korea Republic to Poland

Ambassador Hoonmin Lim is the career diplomat of the Republic of Korea appointed to his current post in Poland in 2021. Prior to that he served as Government Representative for Arctic Affairs and Ambassador for African Affairs at the Korean Foreign Ministry’s Headquarters.

From 2018 to 2020 he was Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU).

Before that Ambassador Lim was posted as Minister-Counselor at the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, U.S.A. and prior to that he was assigned to the Korean Embassy in Ukraine (2012-2014). Between 2008 and 2011 Ambassador Lim worked as Director of the Development Policy Division in the Development Cooperation Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) and then as Assistant Secretary at the Office of the President.

His previous overseas postings include the United Nations Office in Geneva as Counselor from 2006 to 2008, Thailand as First Secretary from 2002 to 2006 and Italy from 1998 to 2002.

Ambassador Lim joined the Foreign Ministry in 1991 after passing the High Diplomatic Service Examination.

He holds a B.A. in German Language and Literature and a B.A. in Political Science and Diplomacy from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.

Ambassador Lim is married and has two daughters.
